DIY Skill #1 – Basic Sewing
There are guys out there who never learned to sew. Some never held a needle and thread all their lives.
Is that a problem? Sewing is “women’s work” anyway…
Wrong. Men who have that mindset are confusing “sewing to repair” with “sewing for leisure.” Most guys obviously don’t try sewing and then turn it into a hobby.
I’m not talking about building a bespoke jacket from scratch. This is about hemming your trousers, using back darts on your shirt – or sewing on a loose button (which only takes around 20 minutes).
Button repair skills can save you from a last-minute button disaster – and potential embarrassment at work! If something happens on your way to the office, or while you’re traveling – you can go to a nearby hotel and ask for their emergency sewing kit (it’s usually free).
Men should master basic sewing to be self-sufficient – to handle situations on their own when they can. Whether your car breaks down or a button pops off your blazer, it helps to know how to make a quick fix. That’s what real men do.
Is skin care that big of a deal? You’re fine as long as there are no huge pimples on your face…
But it’s not just about acne. Healthy skin means your face barely has wrinkles. Your body should be free from rashes or dryness. And no cracked hands.
Why? Because your skin reflects your health. It covers almost every body part – including the muscles you build up at the gym.
If people notice those kinds of flaws – it can be a turn-off. Women might see you as less “mate-worthy” despite how handsome or fit you look.
So it’s all the more important to eat well, stay hydrated, apply sunscreen when you’re outside, and treat your skin at home with the right products.
I’ll suggest one for you: PMD Man. It’s a fantastic product created from a great company. You can use this simple and user-friendly Personal Microderm to make your skin significantly better in no time.
It’s also quite affordable. So you no longer have to be burdened by the cost of professional treatment – and the hassle of scheduling an appointment – just to “clean up” your skin. PMD lets you counter those spots, visible wrinkles, and enlarged pores by yourself. And it’s all EASY to do!
DIY Skill #3 – Cooking
Why cook? You can always eat out or buy some ready-to-microwave packages at the grocery, right?
Here’s the thing. Any food made by someone else (or a machine) is much more likely to contain junk – stuff you do NOT want in your body.
Unless you can afford a personal chef, the only way to have complete control over food ingredients is by cooking your own meals.
Does it really matter? Yes. Good health is priceless.
Eating well + exercise = a good body. A body that your clothes FIT perfectly. Plus great-looking skin. That’s a big part of having style.
You’ll also be saving money by eating more home-cooked meals. But how about time?
If you’re able to stock up with the right ingredients, you don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen for a single meal. These websites offer some time-saving recipes worth trying:
What if you were the face of your company? And your face was shown a lot in ads or articles on the web?
Or what if you worked in real estate – meeting with wealthy and well-respected clients every day?
In those cases, you’d definitely have to dress your best. But you know another trick that can take your image to the next level? Shiny white teeth.
If you can make your teeth even whiter than they are after brushing – you’ll have a standout SMILE wherever you go.
People will notice your white teeth and react to it positively – raising your level of self-confidence. That will give you an edge in your professional life.
Because when you a combine confidence with a killer smile… people are compelled to listen to your message, respect you, and like you more.
Does that mean paying your dentist more visits? Nope. You can actually find good DIY whitening products. I personally tested a couple from DazzlePro – which are safe and easy to use at home. Just remember to follow the instructions without overdoing stuff.
DIY Skill #5 – Ironing / Steaming
Who needs to iron when you can have your clothing dry-cleaned?
That may be more convenient – but what if we do the math for a year’s worth of dry-cleaning?
52 weeks X $10-$20 spent for a week =
$500-$1000+ spent in one year
That’s pretty steep – considering you can get a quality iron or steamer for half that amount or less. It saves money. But does it also save time?
Yes – if you learn to batch process your clothes for ironing. You won’t master it overnight, but it’s just a matter of practice and patience.
For all the details on how to iron and steam your clothing properly – check out the Guide To Wardrobe Maintenance at RMRS. This eBook can teach you everything from which settings to use while ironing – to the correct ways to steam different clothes.
DIY Skill #6 – Treating Stains
You were out having a nice dinner… only for a little wine to spill on your favorite wool jacket. But it’s such a small spot that it’s not worth being “de-stained” professionally.
Are there DIY treatments that actually work? Absolutely. You just need the right solvents. You can’t apply the same stuff to multiple types of fabric (especially the delicate ones).
Once a piece of clothing get stained, head to the nearest sink and dab water gently over the affected area using tissue paper. Do this until the stain is thoroughly saturated – but don’t apply any pressure or heat (it will speed up the bonding process of that stain).
When you’re home, treat it with the correct solvent immediately – and the odds are you’ll salvage your clothing. Here’s a comprehensive chart on different stain treatments for your reference.
DIY Skill #7 – Adding Rubber Soles To Your Shoes
Oh no. The soles of your sleek leather shoes have worn out a little – but the uppers look fine. Is there a cheaper alternative to professional resoling?
Yes. You can attach rubberized soles to your shoes using the proper kit (which you can buy for less than half the price of a cobbler’s service).
That kit provides the tools to cover not just the back heel – but the entire area of the soles. And once you’re finished, you get these benefits:
- Your shoes have more traction – preventing you from slipping on smooth or wet surfaces. The rubber coating gives them extra protection plus a better grip (similar to sports shoes).
- The rubber masks the “clicking” noise of the heels when they strike hard surfaces.
- The shoes last longer (but the rubber soles need to be changed often).
