The Proraso Brand Story
Founded in 1908 by Ludovico Martelli, Proraso has been innovating professional highest-quality products in the shaving world for generations, and has evolved to become a staple of Italian culture. From the first Pre-Shave cream in 1948, to now, the Martelli family principles hold true: to create professional, quality products that deliver a pleasurable and impeccable shave, in the barbershop and at home.
Proraso Shaving Soap in a Bowl, Sensitive Skin
How to use:
Soak your Proraso brush in a bowl or cup filled with hot water for a few minutes before your shave. Apply a warm, damp towel to your face (or splash face with warm water) to prep your face for shaving, then apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream. Apply another hot towel to your face for a few seconds. After the brush has soaked, gently squeeze out excess water, still leaving the brush mostly wet. Apply the brush to the soap in fast, repeated circular motions to coat the brush bristles well. Spread on your beard and proceed with shaving. Close the lid after use to keep the soap from drying out (though, even if it does dry out, it will not lose its efficacy or beneficial properties when reused). Shave and rinse face thoroughly. For an optimal experience, finish with another application of your warm, damp towel, followed by your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion.
Short on time?
Apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream to your damp face (for optimal results). To build up a rich lather, run your shaving brush under hot water for about 30 seconds, if you don't have time to soak it. Apply the brush to the soap in fast, repeated circular motions to coat the brush bristles well. Spread on your beard, shave and rinse, following with your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion. Close the lid after use to keep the soap from drying out (though, even if it does dry out, it will not lose its efficacy or beneficial properties when reused).

You'll notice that our soap may take a bit more water than you're used to, in order to achieve the ideal lather. That's actually one of our biggest points of difference -- the result of its manufacturing process -- and what makes Proraso soap so special. Because it has a much lower moisture content than other shave soaps, you’ll need more water on your shaving brush (we'd suggest soaking it for a few minutes prior to lathering), and perhaps just a touch more patience at first, to achieve that signature Proraso lather: rich, dense, elastic, and one that doesn’t dry out. Once you do, you’ll really see the difference (and why it’s become such a staple of shaving culture over the last 6 decades).

|
---|---|---|---|
Morning is the best time to shaveYour skin is at its softest and most relaxed just after you wake up, so the razor glides easier. |
Always use a Proraso Pre-Shave CreamIt softens and straightens the hairs, making it easier to apply the shaving cream to your beard and pre-conditions the skin. |
Wrap your face in a warm, wet towelJust like traditional barbers do. Otherwise, shave after your morning shower when the skin is soft and hydrated from the warm water. |
The best lather comes from a brush and shaving cream or soapApplying shaving cream or soap with a brush increases the volume of your beard hair and allows for a closer shave. To build up a rich lather, wet your shaving brush and apply the cream in fast, repeated circular motions to coat the brush bristles well. |

---|---|---|---|
While shaving, use a delicate, but firm strokeDon't put too much pressure on the razor and follow the lines of your face, always keeping the skin pulled tight. |
Keep your razor cleanRinse the blade with hot water at least once every two swipes of the razor. Residue from past shaves can reduce the blades' effectiveness and increase the risk of damaging your skin. Also, remember to change your razor often. |
For the perfect shave, one pass just doesn't cut itLather your face a second time and repeat the shave. |
Don't neglect your post-shave routineRinse your face well and repeatedly to remove any residue. |
|
|
|
|
---|---|---|---|
Always use Proraso After Shave Balm or LotionEven if you've shaved to perfection, your skin may still feel stressed and will need to be disinfected, restored and softened. |
Take care of your skinEspecially if you don't shave every day, or have problems with ingrown hair, apply a face cream daily. |

I have coarse stubble growth, and I am prone to ingrown hairs and neck irritation. This was my 3rd brand puck or croap I tried and so far this IS the one that works for me. Less Irritation, great lather, easy to build up, light citrus-powder scent, lasts long and only $10.
The Proraso Red works very well too and I have purchased that one as I love a sandalwood scent. But if you have a sensitive neck like me, the white may work better for you. Either one is well worth the money and a great product.
Right now I have been using Mitchell's Wool Fat. It has a great fresh-vintage Victorian scent, lathers easy(for me), smooth...but MWF is pricy and I still get some nicks.
Proraso will always be in my stock of soaps.
I am also addicted to their aftershave...Great products!
The lathering is best in a bowl or s cup separate from the bowl that it comes in. I learned that after struggling my first few times with it. It also doesn't take much to lather up when you got the right brush and bowl.
The smell, the quality, the feel, it was a fantastic experience for my first time. I would definitely recommend if you want to have a quality classic shave experience when you do shave definitely do proraso products.
I will be checking out other products over time but my experience has been great with all their products so far!

Fragrance: 3/5
Both versions have a rather delicate citrus-coconut scent. To me personally the old version smelled a little nicer. The new version has more of a chemical undertone to it, but not bad.
Shaving action: 5/5
No complaints there. Both the old and the new version give a smooth shave as far as I can tell. Lubricity is not a problem, although I have recently switched to electric shaver (wet), so having a ton of lubricity isn't as much of an issue anymore. A good aftershave lotion or face cream is a must as your skin will likely feel dry right after the shave.
Allergic reactions: 4/5
Let's face it (pun), we all have different skin types and react to different allergens, so this is very personal. I remember after extensive use (a month or longer) of the old version, my skin would be very red, dried out, and burning, to the point where I had to stop using it. I haven't used the new version long enough yet to determine if the same thing will happen this time. So far so good. But I do feel the slight tingling sensation when I apply the lather to the face, which is probably caused by menthol. If your skin is super sensitive like mine, and you find out that this proraso product is just not gentle enough, I would recommend you try Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel. It's less expensive than Proraso, and it is the most gentle shaving product I have ever tried. Granted, the fragrance is boring (it smells like oats), but it kept me out of any facial skin allergic conditions in the past.
White film residue:
You may have seen some video reviews mentioning this. After you use this product for a while, you'll notice your shaving gear (razor, brush, bowl, sink, etc.) covered with very thin by stubborn white hazy film. I'm not sure which ingredient is responsible for this, but I've noticed this with both the old and the new version of the product.
Summary: 4/5
It's a nice shaving soap, but as mentioned earlier, we all have different levels of skin sensitivity, so while it might work for some, it may cause irritation to others. You just have to try it. If it works, that's great. If not, give that Aveeno Therapeutic Shave Gel a try.
EDIT: can't seem to be able to add captions to images. The ones mentioning Aloe are for the old formula.

Being new to the world of using a safety razor, this soap is far better compared to what I’ve been using for years. The scent is very light, clean and crisp. Like Kiwi and Apple. It also has a small amount of menthol which gives your skin a nice cooling feeling, but it certainly isn’t overwhelming. It’s very slick in my usage. I am able to do two passes and some spot shaving. The amount of irritation and razor burn has been incredibly reduced given that my skin is very sensitive.
With proper technique and proper skin preparation, this soap will no doubt perform wonderfully. Proraso has certainly made a new customer out of me. I highly recommend this to those with very sensitive skin.

En general son excelentes productos.

1. **Ultra-Sensitive Formula**: Designed specifically for ultra-sensitive skin, this shaving soap is free from parabens, silicones, and artificial colors. It minimizes the risk of irritation and razor burn.
2. **Green Tea Extract**: Green tea is known for its soothing and antioxidant properties. It helps calm the skin and reduce redness, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
3. **Oat Extract**: Oat extract provides hydration and nourishment to the skin, leaving it soft and smooth after shaving.
4. **Rich Lather**: This soap produces a rich and creamy lather that allows the razor to glide smoothly across your skin, reducing the chances of nicks and cuts.
5. **Fresh Fragrance**: The green tea and oat fragrance is refreshing and invigorating, adding to the overall shaving experience.
Cons:
1. **Requires a Shaving Brush**: To create the best lather, you'll need a shaving brush. While this adds to the traditional shaving ritual, some users may prefer a brushless product for convenience.
In summary, Proraso Shaving Soap with Green Tea and Oat is a must-have for individuals with ultra-sensitive skin who still want to enjoy the pleasures of wet shaving. Its natural and soothing ingredients make it a top choice for a comfortable and irritation-free shave.
Considering its suitability for sensitive skin, rich lather, and overall shaving experience, I confidently rate Proraso Shaving Soap with Green Tea and Oat with a perfect five stars. It's a premium product that delivers on its promise of a luxurious and gentle shaving experience.
