Of Rogues and Gentlemen – Brooks Brother’s NEW Blog Review

Yesterday I discovered Brooks Brother’s new blog, Of Rogues and Gentlemen.

I was instantly drawn to the website as I have been anticipating Brooks Brothers move into the information space and blogging world for some time.  Four years ago when I created my Men’s Style Guide over at A Tailored Suit, I always thought why hasn’t a big multi-million dollar company created something like this yet.  I think I sort of received my answer from this blog.

First off –  Brooks Brothers‘ first effort here receives 3 out of 5 stars.  To be blunt, I was underwhelmed, especially having recently watched the launch of Mr. Porter and GiltManual and knowing the reputation of Brooks Brothers.

What I like about Of Rogues and Gentlemen

  1. Clear and Concise Layout – very easy to navigate
  2. Solid, Timeless Advice that goes into some detail
  3. Relevant images that match well with the text

Where I think Of Rogues and Gentlemen can improve

  1. The blog needs a Brooks Brothers voice – right now it speaks like an emotionless corporation with no differentiation from the hundred of other blogs out there.
  2. More details – this is Brooks Brothers, you are in a position to write the rules!  We look to you for guidance, give it!
  3. Faces, let’s see some happy people.
  4. A few other tips, but BB will have to email me and ask:)

Suit yourself Of Rogues and Gentlemen

Brooks Brothers just started this blog, and to their defense I know they have a lot of smart people who will  be making it better.  I guess I just expected more from such a historic store with so much to offer the world of menswear.  I’ll be following the progress and look forward to reviewing it again later this year!

Final verdict – Good, but not as great as I had hoped.

I viewed the BB blog and would give it only 2 out of 5. I think a company of the stature of BB would be ashamed to place a half finished blog onto the web. Most of the links did not lead to anything of extra value to me.
I have been a BB customer for years and like the products they sell and the service I receive in their stores.
I was underwhelmed.
