Chafing.
Every man has felt the pain.
But few ever discuss the problem.
Instead, it goes ignored and men resort to temporary solutions like lubricants or genital constricting briefs.
Does this sound comfortable?
Athletes, Marines, Soldiers, and medical professionals in scrubs all day know it well.
The worst part?
Once a rash develops it takes weeks to get rid of. Most people in these professions don't have time to sit around and recover.
So let's talk about this painful problem…and the solution.
I'm going to lay out what causes chafing and a way to prevent it forever.
What Causes Chafing?
Chafing is caused by a constant friction between your thighs and your equipment. A painful continual rubbing until your skin is raw.
Marathon runners have felt this first hand. So have Soldiers and Marines who go on long forced marches.Â
Personally, after a 5 mile march in Officer Candidate School I had to use vaseline to prevent chafing from happening on future marches.Â
Talk about a messy solution. I wouldn't advise lubricants as a long term solution.
Wet Skin also increases the chances of chafing. Temperatures increase and moisture collects. Sweat speeds up the irritation to blistering and possibly even bleeding. Ouch!
There are options you can use to prevent chafing. Things like lubricants, baby powder, sweat wicking synthetics, jock straps and tighty whitey underwear all provide relief.
The problem is these are all uncomfortable short term solutions. There has never been a permanent answer for this dilemma.
An Innovative Way to Solve Chafing With Underwear?
I recently came across a unique company.
The story goes like this. An Army Sergeant in Iraq was trying to figure out how to solve the problem of chafing. The desert marches were taking its toll and he needed a solution. He started inserting fabric into his underwear separating his equipment from his body.
It worked! He felt immediate relief without the need to slap on loads of lubricants, powder or anatomy compressing tights.
Fast forward to returning to the States and he turned it into a business.
Sheath Underwear incorporates an additional pouch that separates the male anatomy from the rest of the body. Genius!
I think this company is great for 3 main reasons.
- Innovation
- A Good Value
- It's a New, Veteran Owned Business.
Sheath Underwear is Innovative
I love companies that think outside the box. They took a problem which already had solutions, and made a better solution. One that works. I wish these were made back when I was in OCS. Every man in school would have bought a pair.
A wide range of atheletes and working professionals are giving their testimony for Sheath Underwear.
Professional baseball players, UFC fighters, cooks, and cyclists are loving it.
Another plus is the style is conservative. Unlike the jock strap or whitey tighties, it's designed for the man who prides comfort and won't make him feel like he's wearing lingerie.
Sheath Underwear is A Good Value
How do you define good value? I characterize it by a few things:
- Price point
- Quality
- Functionality
The price point is strong. You can get a pair for less than their name brand competitors.
Made with 95% cotton and 5% elastane you don't have to sacrifice comfort by wearing a pair of synthetic underwear or lathering on lubricants.
In regards to function, the pouch is non-constrictive, but also supportive in keeping the boys off the legs. AC approval for function (Antonio Centeno approved). 😉
Sheath Underwear is New And Veteran Owned
Everyone knows I have a soft spot for Veteran owned businesses, and for start ups. I think it takes guts to start a business and I love to be able to support veterans.
One thing that hits home is the company's willingness to give back.
Sheath Underwear has begun donating a portion of their inventory to provide fresh underwear to those in need.  Apparently, the largest request from homeless shelters is fresh underwear and they are in a position to provide this and have been do so recently.
They began by donating to soldiers serving in Iraq through Socks for Soldiers Inc. They donated 10% of their first batch of inventory and another hundred pair last year.
This isn't something they have publicized either, but I am publicizing it because the more people know the more resources they can get to help.
For every purchase made at Sheath Underwear they will be donating a fresh new pair of underwear to someone who needs them through local homeless shelters nationwide, and in the UK.
